2017 Categories & Rules

 Lucky Dip

No-one knows who their partner will be until the day itself; they may be a complete stranger they may not! They may be a good dancer – they may not, either way, they are your partner in this category for the rest of the day!
Lucky Dip will be the first category so be sure to arrive early!
Lucky Dip Rules:
  • This category is open to both Amateur & Open Level competitors
  • Aerials of any description are not permitted
  • Dips & Drops are permitted as long as the move does not conflict with the Aerial definition
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Novice Amateur Freestyle

An amateur is defined as someone who is not a professional dancer or classed as an open level dancer. The Novice Amateur Freestyle is for fixed couples who are new to the competition scene. You will be competing against other amateur dancers – No professionals are allowed to enter this category.
Novice Amateur Freestyle Rules
  • Competition is open to Amateurs ONLY
  • Open to anyone who hasn’t competed before or has never placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd at intermediate level or above at any competition in the UK.
  • Aerials of any description are not permitted
  • Dips & Drops are permitted as long as the move does not conflict with the Aerial definition
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Experienced Amateur Freestyle

A fixed partnered freestyle category for experienced competition couples. This category is open to all Amateur dancers but recommended for dancers who have competed or placed at intermediate/advanced level. Open level dancers are not permitted to enter this category.

  • Competition is open to Amateurs ONLY
  • Aerials are permitted in this category
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Senior Amateur Freestyle

This category is for couples over 45 years of age. Both partners need to be 45 years of age or older. Proof of age will be required should there be any question regarding eligibility. It is a freestyle competition for allAmateur dancers. New competitors are welcome to enter and it’s a more accessible category for those who wish to compete against couples of similar age.

Open Freestyle

Ceroc competition at it’s finest. Open to ALL competitors this will be the cream of the crop, competing to be the best! Be prepared to wow the judges and the audience with breath taking moves, effortless style and expert timing. You’ll be competing with top competitors with no holds barred.

Top Cats (Amateur & Open Divisions)

In this section no-one knows who their partner will be! We aim to discover who are the best individual dancers with this category. Tops Cat’s is based on the Jack & Jill concept where individuals are randomly paired in each round and judged on their dancing. It is the individuals who go through to the next round, again to be randomly paired for the next heat. This means that each entrant will have a different partner for each round. There are two divisions, Amateur & Open.
Top Cats Rules
  • Aerials of any description are not permitted
  • Dips & Drops are permitted as long as the move does not conflict with the Aerial definition
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Showcase

Competitors will choreograph a routine to a set piece of music chosen by themselves and will perform as a single couple infront of the judges and audience. This category requires you to enter a complete routine, you may not freestyle dance to your own piece of music, it must be choreographed so that it may be performed again should there be reason to. Entries to this category should notify us by email so a regular line of communication can be established.
Showcase Rules
  • Any dance style is permitted
  • Open to all levels of dancer including dance professionals
  • Your routine must be 3-5 minutes long including opening & ending
  • Music must be provided prior to the event
  • If requested, you must be able to provide a video of your routine a minimum of one week prior to the competition

 


 

Double Trouble

This category is for those who enjoy dancing as a trio instead of a couple. Trio’s can consist of any gender and you can swap the lead between all 3 of you as long as one person is leading and the other two are following the lead.

  • Aerials are permitted in this category
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Pro-Am (Lead & Follow Divisions)

This category is open to couples comprising of one Amateur & one Open Level competitior. You will be judged as a couple. Competitor couples or partnerships from the Intermediate & Advanced Freestyle Trophy sections are not permitted to enter this section.
Pro-Am Rules
  • Competitor couples must consist of one Amateur & one Open Level competitor
  • Aerials are permitted in this category
  • Your dancing must be recognisable as Modern Jive

 


 

Back to Basics

This category is open to all dancers (only 1 Open Level dancer per couple) – Back to Basics is all about the 12 Ceroc Beginners Moves – you can dance any combination and in any order provided you don’t use any other moves than the 12 listed in the competition rules!

Back to Basics Rules

  • This category is open to both Amateur & Open Level competitors. Only one Open Level competition per couple. Only the following combinations of competitors are allowed:
    • 1 Amateur Dancer + 1 Amateur Dancer
    • 1 Open Level Dancer + 1 Amateur Dancer
  • Couples must ONLY dance the CURRENT 12 Ceroc Beginners Moves:
    • Basic Travelling Return
    • Basic Cradle
    • Basic Manspin
    • Basic Octopus
    • High First
    • Step Across
    • Comb Mambo
    • Shoulderspring
    • Short Neckbreak
    • Slingshot
    • Spot Turn
    • Ceroc Spin
